Build Reader Trust with Sources They Can Actually Check
A source link should help readers verify a specific claim. Linking a brand's homepage is rarely enough to support a detailed price, eligibility rule or technical limitation. Choose the page that contains the evidence and explain uncertainty when the available material does not settle the question.
Why it matters
Sources have different roles. An official pricing page can establish a published plan, a technical document can explain behaviour, and your own example can demonstrate an approach without proving a universal result.
A practical workflow
- Identify the claims that depend on external facts, especially amounts, dates, requirements and direct quotations.
- Find the closest primary source and check that it refers to the relevant product, region and time period.
- Place the link near the claim and distinguish your interpretation from what the source explicitly establishes.
- Review conflicting or missing information openly instead of filling the gap with a confident but unsupported statement.
An example
If two official pages show different programme durations, do not select the larger number without explanation. State the discrepancy and direct readers to the current claim page or provider support before they make a decision that depends on the duration.
A mistake to avoid
A long source list does not compensate for weak matching between evidence and claims. Also avoid quoting more than you need. A concise explanation in your own words with a precise link is usually easier to verify.
Try it and check the result
Choose three factual statements from a draft and ask someone to verify them using only the provided links. If they cannot locate the supporting passage, improve the citation or narrow the claim before publication.
